HUNTSVILLE, AL – Kyle Gibbons had two goals and one assist to lead the Fayetteville FireAntz to a 4-1 victory over the Huntsville Havoc.
Gibbons’ tallies came short handed at 1:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville and on the power play 18:47 into the first to make the score 2-0 Fayetteville.
Fayetteville was led by goalie Parker Van Buskirk, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Van Buskirk certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.69 entering the contest.
The FireAntz’s penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Fayetteville had been spending in the box. The FireAntz’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Huntsville power plays. Fayetteville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Gibbons, Nick Lazorko and Josh McQuade took 16 of the team’s 29 shots.
Fayetteville also got points from Lazorko, who also tallied one goal and two assists and McQuade, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Brad Plumton, who had one.
Huntsville put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.4 it averages per game.
The Havoc were led by John Lidgett, who scored the team’s only goal. Lidgett scored 1:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Kyle McNeil picked up the assist.
The FireAntz registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Huntsville’s Kevin Genoe stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Havoc ended with 36 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors.
