BRACKNELL, UK – With a bumper crowd in attendance and a confident vibe around the Hornets nest, it was clear from the start the BIHC Bracknell Hornets have high expectations for the upcoming season.
The first period was very much an even affair ending 3-2 in the Berkshire sides
favour with Ealey-Newman brothers (Ben & Josh) and S.Fisher getting on the score sheet, Goddard & a humdinger of a finish from Russell ensured the visitors remained in contention as did a missed penalty shot for Hughes in the 9th minute.
Into the second, the Hornets looked to be gaining in confidence and at times, it could be said over compensated going forward, as the Buffalo continued to create breakaway chances only the performance of MOM Will Sanderson preventing a closer game. Then with 26:34 on the clock the game changed, four unanswered goals from the home team saw the gap widen with player coach Danny Hughes & Ealey-Newman (of the Josh variety) being involved in three of them either side of a well worked Barker goal ending the period 7-2.
Sean Scarbrough and Steve Fisher showed their telepathic super powers early in the third with a well worked eighth goal scored by the latter. Buffalo replied shortly after with MOM Blair Dubyk scoring a third for his now tiring side before Tom Gilheany scored another unassisted on 52:01. With still time in the game the young guns got their chance with Hughes giving an opportunity to U18 Drones Harry Harcup and Zack Milton (or Mac if you go by the programme) and it certainly paid off when the two combined just 30 seconds later to secure their first senior points and a 10-3 victory.
