With The Huskies on a streak this was yet again billed as a top of the table clash and many would say it didn’t quite live up to those expectations from a Hornets point of view as it will go down as a gritty, scrappy hard fought victory.
The missing silkiness of Sean Scarbrough showed early on as the home side struggled to find the fluidity as in previous weeks, with the rejiggled lines finding it difficult to get that vital final touch, wave after wave of attack was thwarted by the quality net minding of former Hornet David Wride and as a result it was the visitors who took a shock lead into the first break after Huskies Daniel Clayton completed some great work with a top finish past Sanderson.
Head coach Danny Hughes certainly would’ve had words during the ice cut and just five minutes into the second Steven fisher fed MOTM Josh Ealey – Newman who finished well to level things up. During a second period that was as gritty as the first with lots of nearly scraps (most wouldn’t have even moved the needle on the 482Days handbag -0 – meter) it took ten more minutes for the home side to finally get in front with Fisher the provider again for older brother Ben Ealey – Newman to make it 2-1 on the PP, before Will Stead extended the lead further just a mere 20 seconds later ending the period 3-1.
The Huskies certainly rallied and with the Hornets influential player/coach Hughes now sidelined through a hip injury they snatched another through Mercer, leaving the large crowd unsure of how this would go before another Fisher/Ealey – Newman combination made it 4-2,
Fisher then got his rewards and scored the Hornets fifth with a few minutes to play, the game wasn’t over and MOTM Clayton got his second of the game but a little to late for a comeback as the buzzer went just 30 seconds after.
