Levine, Rivermen Top Macon In Goaltending Duel, 2-1

The Peoria Rivermen and Macon Mayhem traded goals in regulation, but neither team could gain an advantage as the two clubs needed more than 60 minutes to decide a winner. Peoria got goals from Jordan Carvalho and the eventual overtime winner from Robin Hoglund to sneak past the Mayhem, 2-1 Friday night in front of 2,889 fans inside Carver Arena. With the victory, Peoria improves to 22-4-3 on the season and remain three points ahead of second place Fayetteville. Macon gains a standings point, seeing their record go to 9-18-5.
The Mayhem jumped out to q quick lead in the opening minutes of the first frame. Macon winger Dylan Denomme controlled the puck below the goal line and found a streaking Shawn Lynch who snapped a shot over the left shoulder of Rivermen netminder Eric Levine for the 1-0 lead at 3:29 of the opening period.
The Rivermen evened the score just beyond the midway point of the contest when Brandon Rumble sent a pass through the neutral zone to Jordan Carvalho, who sped into the offensive zone and snapped a shot that was stopped by Mayhem goaltender Hayden Stewart, but the rebound popped back to Carvalho who swatted a backhand shot over the blocker of Stewart to tie the game, 1-1 at 11:45 of the middle frame.
Neither team could crack the 1-1 tie in the final period of regulation, sending the game into a 3-on-3 overtime session. Peoria controlled play in the opening stages of the extra session and earned the eventual game winner just over three minutes in. In the midst of a net front flurry, Robin Hoglund found the puck to the right side of the net, with Stewart on his back Hoglund elevated the puck into the back of the net for the 2-1 game winning goal at 2:45 of overtime.
Levine picked up the win in goal, stopping 26 of 27 shots faced. With the win, he improves to 15-1-3 on the 2019-20 campaign. Stewart took the overtime loss in goal for Macon, falling to 1-3-2.
