DUNDAS—Dundas Real McCoys played just one of their two game in the Allan Cup Hockey league this weekend because of weather conditions, but the effort they turned in last Friday night, President and General Manger Don Robertson is filled with optimism.
Friday night the McCoys were edged 5-4 by the Hamilton Steelhawks and the following night their match with the Whitby Dunlops in Whitby because of weather conditions. As a result the McCoys have seven games left to play.
The next action for Dundas is next Friday (January 25th) at 7:30 p.m. in the Harry Howell Arena against the Dunlops. The following night the McCoys will travel to Whitby to play a re-match at 6:30 p.m. in the Iroquois Sports Centre.
Following that game, Dundas will have five games left to play be fore the season ends including the game that was postponed on Saturday night at Whitby. This means that the McCoys will also play Hamilton and Stoney Creek Generals twice each.
“January 10th meant that we cut back on our roster, and now we are looking to add some depth,” said Robertson.
“Friday night with several guys missing, the players we had at our disposal turned in a fabulous effort, and deserved a better fate. It was a real gutsy effort, which we were really proud of. “
“We’ll have some of the guys back this Friday, and we will be adding some depth to our roster. I’m sure it will be an exciting finish to the year,” Robertson added.
Last Friday night the Real McCoys played one of their finest games, however it was not enough to carry them to victory over the Hamilton Steelhawks in the Harry Howell Arena.
The Steelhawks scored five times in the first two periods before the McCoys mounted a three-goal second and third period offensive comeback. Unfortunately, the Steelhawks edged Dundas 5-4.
Bryan Cameron and Justin DiBenedetto paced Hamilton with a goal and two assists each. Josh Randalli added a goal and an assist, while Paul Zanette and Bryan McGregor added single goals. Matt Ruberto set up two of the Hamilton scoring plays.
Cam Watson led Dundas with two goals, while Guy Polillo and Phil Brewer chipped a goal and assist each. Polillo is fifth in ACH league scoring with 24 points and is second in total assists with 17.
