GUELPH, ONTARIO – Guelph Storm defenseman and Los Angeles Kings prospect Zac Leslie was honored with a tribute before the game start, his final OHL game and 250th of his career.
The Storm would win 3-1; their seventh consecutive home game win against the Highway 7 rival Kitchener Rangers before a crowd of 4,758 on Sunday afternoon at Sleeman Centre.
Storm forward and St Louis Blues prospect Robby Fabbri returned to the lineup after missing 32 games due to an ankle injury suffered while playing with Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships.
The games’ first goal would be the Storm’s 12th shorthanded of the season, ranking them 3rd in the league. Phil Baltisberger (4th) would score on a feed from Fabbri at 11:51 in the first. Tyler Boston would net his 10th of the season off his own rebound in heavy traffic giving the Storm a 2-0 lead.
Rangers leading scorer Ryan MacInnis grabbed his 22nd goal of the season with a wrist shot to the blocker side, beating out Justin Nichols. Guelph led into the first intermission, 2-1.
After a scoreless 2nd period, Guelph’s Pius Suter (34th) put the game out of reach for the Rangers with his empty net goal at 1:03 remaining in the third.
