PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Give-goal third sends Steelers past Panthers, 8-4

SHEFFIELD – The Sheffield Steelers came from behind with a blistering display to take the Challenge Cup points against the Nottingham Panthers 8-4 on Saturday night at the Arena.

Steelers had trailed 3-0 at the end of the first period after Matherson (7.04), Loiseau (8.28) SHG, Herr (13.54) SHG gave Nottingham the perfect start.

Sheffield hadn’t played badly in that opening spell but a couple of bad bounces at one end and inspired goaltending at the other had given the 7000 plus in attendance something to scratch their head about.

Normal service was resumed pretty early on in the middle period. Steelers power-play got going with Davies scoring at 27.14 (assisted Lemtyugov).

Dowdy started and finished a great move at 32.04 with Vallerand and Connolly assisting (2-3)

Lemtyugov’s pass to Eric Meland was sublime, Meland went in alone and shot past Carr at 36.48 to tie the game 3-3 by the end of the second period.

Nottingham once again took the lead just 1.53 seconds into the final session, Herr the scorer.

Martin St Pierre showed his class and great patience to once again level the scores with 11 minutes remaining, Davies and Eberle assisting.

The one-way traffic continued thereafter, Aaron Johnson hammered the Steelers 5-4 ahead at 50.43

Tanner Eberle looked like he was about to pass the puck before shooting past Carr 25 seconds later, it was 6-4 and the building was rocking.

Hold your beer ….. the Steelers hadn’t finished – A bullet from John Armstrong at 55.31 (7-4)

James Bettauer completed the scoring at 56.16 for a final score of Steelers 8-4 Nottingham Panthe
