PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Ghost Pirates defeat Icemen, 3-2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Savannah Ghost Pirates scored twice, seven minutes apart, in the second period, as goaltender Darion Hanson stopped 30 shots en route to a 3-2 road victory in front of 6,436 fans at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Brent Pederson’s power play goal 10:58 into the first gave Savannah a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Jacksonville struck to tie on a power play goal by Brandon Fortunato 2:25 into the second. The tie, however, would not last for long.

Marshall Moise would find the net for the Ghost Pirates just 12-seconds after Jacksonville’s equalizer. Tristan Thompson added the would-be game winning goal at 9:22 of the second.

The Icemen attempted to make it interesting late in the third period, pulling within one on a Christopher Brown goal at 16:18.

The Ghost Pirates improved to 7-3-3-0 on the season, placing them in fifth place in the South Division. Jacksonville falls to 8-7-0-0, just one point behind Savannah.

The Ghost Pirates are set to close out their current road trip on Tuesday at Atlanta.

Jacksonville will have a few days to re-group before traveling to Greenville to take on the Swamp Rabbits on Thursday.
