PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Generals secure first heading to post season

The Generals remain regular season champions after securing 1st place with an 18-4-2 record finishing with 55 points this season.

Our journey  to the Allan Cup continues starting on Saturday March 4 at 7:15PM at Gateway Ice Centre where we face off in round 1 against the 5th place Dundas Real McCoys. Dundas won their best of 3 series again this season but this time vs the 4th place Brantford Blast. In their regular season meetings, the Generals made it 4-0 with most of the games taking place this year.

Back in October, the Real McCoy’s came to Gateway where there was a hard fought battle which ended up in a shootout. Justin Donati scored twice in the shootout securing the victory at home.

Their next meetings took place in January, Dundas would visit Gateway first on January 7 where the Generals held strong for 50 minutes of play before Dundas would score their first goal. Stoney Creek’s Jarrett Konkle would shine in this game gaining 5 points and helping the team secure an 8-2 victory.

Their second January meeting took place in Dundas on January 13, the first period would show early scoring for Stoney Creek but by the end of the first we were tied at 2 goals each. The remaining 40 minutes of play, the Generals took off scoring an additional 5 goals and Stoney Creek’s Matt Dzieduszycki would earn himself a hat trick and an assist for a 4 point game. The final score was 7-2 for Stoney Creek.

Their final regular season meeting took place on February 17 in Dundas where the Real McCoys would score first but they could not hang on to the lead for long, the Generals would answer back 8 times by the end of the second period. Dundas’ Ben Skinner would score 2 goals for the Real McCoys’ in third period but it wouldn’t be enough as General Jarrett Konkle would add one more to his impressive evening and securing a 9-3 victory for Stoney Creek.
