PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Fuel top Allen, 4-1

INDIANAPOLIS – In the only head-to-head meeting between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel defeated the ECHL’s top team, the Allen Americans, on Friday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum by a final score of 4-1. With the win, the Fuel’s fourth straight victory and fifth in the team’s past six games, the Fuel improved to 11-21-4-3 overall this season and with 29 points, remain alone in sixth place in the ECHL’s North Division standings.PHN_BSOG-200x133

After a scoreless opening period, Allen claimed a 1-0 lead at 5:57 of the middle frame when Gary Steffes stuffed his 25th goal of the season under the Indy crossbar on a transition one-timer from the left side. The Fuel were quick to respond, however, as Vincent Arseneau tapped home a tying goal at 8:21 with Kyle Stroh and Dillon Fournier collecting assists on the play. Then, less than one minute later, a three-on-one rush for the Fuel resulted in Rhett Bly’s ninth score of the season, a center-slot wrister, set up by Evan Vossen and Kirill Gotovets, that made it 2-1 Fuel heading into the final frame of regulation.

In the third, two quick goals, from Garett Bembridge at 2:59 and Mike Duco at 3:19, pushed the Indy advantage to 4-1 and thanks to a stellar 21-save performance from Fuel goaltender Mac Carruth, Indy skated away with a decisive victory over the ECHL’s top-ranked team and extended the Fuel’s season-long point streak to six games.
