PHILADELPHIA – After long, terrible road trip, the Philadelphia Flyers returned home
Tuesday night and were greeted with a testy Ottawa Senators club that took their hosts to a shootout before Wayne Simmonds potted the game-winner in the fifth round of the talent portion of the contest for a 2-1 Flyers win.
Steve Mason was named the game’s number one star for making 41 saves in regulation and extra time and then four saves in the skills competition.
Ottawa’s Craig Anderson made 34 saves on the night and was spectacular in net to enable the Sens to get a point of the effort.
Mike Hoffman gave Ottawa the lead early in the second period before Simmonds scored on the power play just over two minutes later.
Ottawa broke through on the first round of the shootout with a goal from Mika Zibanejad and the Flyers’ Jakub Voracek replied with his own goal.
