PHILADELPHIA – Everyone was knocking rust the slates and even the camera lens on Tuesday night as the Flyers hosted the New York Islanders opened the preseason.
Brian Elliot got the start for the Flyers; he made 10 saves and surrendered one goal before coming out midway through the second period.

For the Isles, Semyon Varlamov took the paint for his first start for New York since signing as a free agent. He made 10 stops and allowed the Flyers’ only goal on the night.
Christopher Gibson came into the game in the middle frame and made 14 saves.
James van Riemsdyk had the lone Flyers goal.
The Isles got goals from Luca Sbisa (game-winner), Thomas Hickey and Erik Brown (empty net) for the 3-1 final score.
