PHN’s Best Shots Of The Game: Flames and Sheffield are even after Cup First Leg

SHEFFIELD, UK – In the 2-leg aggregate goal Cup Quarter Final, the Flames recovered from a 3-1 deficit and had a late lead before the Steelers scored less than 10 seconds from time on a powerplay to start leg 2 all tied up at 4 goals apiece.

The Flames got off to a good start when Evan Ritt cut in from the right side and tucked a high shot over Matt Climie for a 1-0 lead at 2:05. A 13th minute bullet just inside the blue line by Josh Pitt had the Steelers back on even terms after a period.

Early in the 2nd, Steelers took a lead when Tanner Eberle converted on a long breakaway. Anthony DeLuca, at 33:13, expanded the gap to a pair, but 30 seconds from the end of the frame Brett Ferguson stuffed home a rebound and the visitors began the 3rd just a goal adrift.

Seconds into the final set, they brought it fully level when a solid run of forechecking by Spectrum’s men paid off with an Ian Watters re-direction of a Jez Lundin feed from the point. Jesse Craige had them in a lead with a goal inside the final 10 minutes, but 3 straight Flames penalties late finally cost them when Robert Dowd one timed the equalizer just 8 seconds from time to send the clubs back to Surrey for Leg 2 all square at 4 each.
