SHEFFIELD, UK – Despite outshooting the Flyers 44-31 the Steelers impotence in front of goal was once again the major issue as Fife came from a goal down to score 3 unanswered and take the points back to Kircaldy.
The first period started promisingly with Mathieu Roy scoring unassisted to give the Steelers an early lead.
It also started the “Teddy Bear Toss” in aid of Hallam FM’s MISSION CHRISTMAS.
Steelers had chance after chance to extend their lead in the first session – time after time going close or forcing outstanding saves from Flyers goalie Andy Iles.
Fife’s only chances early on came from three first period power-plays. The Steelers killed and went on to create further opportunities without finding that killer blow.
Fife took advantage in the middle period with two power-play strikes of their own.
Armstrong sat out 2 for tripping at 36.03 – he was quickly followed to the penalty box by Andreas Jamtin for cross checking.
The Flyers struck on the 5/3 PP – Shayne Stockton equalised at 36.50
Chase Schaber then went on to put Fife 2-1 ahead a minute later.
Steelers had more chances as the game went into the third period but with confidence in front of goal at an all time low frustration grew both on the ice and in the crowd.
Steelers rained in 13 shots to Fife’s 5 in the final period. Iles continued his impressive form with stunning saves off Roy and Wallace chances.
Steelers pulled Ervins Mustukovs in the final minute only for Charlie Mosey to find the empty net for a 3-1 score line.
Fans showed their disapproval at the end of the night – a pointless weekend for the Steelers.
