JACKSONVILLE, FLA – On Sunday, March 3rd, the Jacksonville Icemen welcomed the Florida Everblades to the Veterans Memorial Arena for the second and final game of Jacksonville’s Hockey Fights Cancer weekend. After a day of awareness and fundraising,it was the visiting Everblades who came away with a 4-1 victory.
Coming off of a win in Orlando on Saturday, Florida jumped out to a quick two goal lead in the first period. The opening tally was netted by the Everblades Blake Winiecki off of assists from Brenden Miller and Michael Neville at the 4:56 mark. Just over a minute later at 6:02, Steven Lorentz scored an unassisted goal to give the visitors a 2-0 cushion at the first intermission.
The Everblades upped their lead to 3-0 when Lorentz and Derek Sheppard helped set up Ben Masella for a tally 4:50 into the second frame. Jacksonville finally got on the board at the 8:53 mark of the middle stanza when Wacey Rabbit found the back of the net off of assists by Christophe Lalancette and Chris Rygus.
The score stayed static until the late stages of the third period when with Icemen goalie Tanner Jaillet pulled for an extra attacker, Grant Arnold put the puck into the vacated cage with 2:54 remaining. Lorentz and Kyle Platzer were given the assists on Arnold’s score.
Jaillet finished the game with 16 saves on 19 shots faced in suffering the loss for Jacksonville while Jeremy Helvig picked up the win for the Everblades with 19 saves.
