JACKSONVILLE, FLA – On Friday, November 2nd, the Jacksonville Icemen hosted the Florida Everblades with intentions on extending their season-opening winning streak to six games. However, the visitors from Estero had other ideas as they came away with a 4-2 victory at the Veterans Memorial Arena.
Florida opened the scoring efore the first period was halfway done when Zach Nastasiuk was in the right place to put home the rebound of a shot by Jordon Southorn.Just 3:48 later, the Everblades made it a two-goal lead when defenseman Josh Wesley netted his first of the season.
Jacksonville fought back to score the next two goals to even the score. With only 21 seconds left in the opening frame, veteran Wacey Rabbit redirected a shot by Dajon Mingo during a power play to trim the margin to 2-1. Then early in the third frame, Kayle Doetzel converted a rebound to knot the game at 2-2.
The game remained tied until a Florida power play midway through the final period led to a goal by John McCarron, who took a pass from Nastasiuk and beat Icemen goalie Tanner Jaillet. Joe Cox finished off the scoring with an empty net tally when McCarron sent him away on a breakaway in the final minute.
Former Jacksonville goalie Jamie Phillips gotthe best of his former team, making 21 saves to post the victory for Florida. Jaillet played well in defeat, stopping 25 shots.
