Annapolis, MD: McMullen Arena, home to the U S Naval Academy’s Midshipmen, hosted games for both the mens D1 and D2 teams on Friday night. It was a 7:30 start for the D1 Midshipmen going up against the University of Delaware Blue Hens. The nightcap at 10:10 featured Navy’s D2 team taking on the University of Akron’s Zips.
In game one, the Blue Hens had eight different goal scorers, and 14 players with points, defeating Navy eight to three.
The first period was a tightly contested period, with the University of Delaware’s Ian Anderson getting on the board first at 5:46 with assists from Michael Nisky and Jakob Defares. At 8:02 it was Navy’s Luke Turk scoring with helpers from Alexander Vandenberg and Conner Hyden. The period ended tied at one, with Navy firing 13 shots on goal to Delaware’s 15.
Period two started out fast and furious, as Kevin Felice of the U of D scoring just 1:24 in to the period. Colin Emrich and Brian Ostrander had the assists. At 4:09, the Blue Hens continued their assault when Ethan Docking scored from teammates Michael Zidansek and Harrison Chuma. It was Emerich at 7:52, extending the lead with help from Nisky and Chris Mazzella. After the third goal of the period, Navy coach Kevin Rooney called time out to settle his team down. The break seemed to help, as Jeffrey Wu was able to score a power play goal at 12:14 with assists from Andrew Douglas and Derek Golembrosky. Unfortunately for Navy, the Blue Hens would score with two seconds left in the period. Brian Ostrander got the goal, with assists from Emerich and Michael Patterson.

Period three saw Navy cut into the lead at 7:34 when Turk got his second goal of the game from Golembrosky and Joseph Kelly. The Blue Hens would score the games final three goals at 13:29, 17:27 and 19:31. Chris Mazzella, Thomas Cascone and Ryan Burns were the goal scorers. Providing assists on the goals were Nisky, Emerich, Patterson, Cameron Piorkowski, Ethan Docking and Harrison Chuma.
Thatcher Givens was in goal for Navy and made 31 saves on 39 shots, while Christopher Ponticello made 40 saves on 43 shots. The two teams face off again Saturday night in Delaware.
Game two was a better result for Navy, as they defeated the Zips 9-2. The box score with scoring information was unavailable at the time of this article. The two teams were set to match up again in Annapolis on Saturday.
