DANVILLE, IL – On Saturday, February 14, the Danville Dashers had an opportunity to extend their double digit game winning streak to eleven games. It was not easy but they did so thanks to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Berkshire Battalion.
The Battalion opened the scoring with a goal from Robert Morton. The Dashers answered right back when off the ensuing faceoff, Justin Brausen took the puck the length of the ice and beat Berkshire goalie Stephen Messina over the catching glove. Late in the period, Morton picked up his second of the game to give the Battalion a 2-1 lead after one.
Berkshire got a goal from Michael Kaseloukas early in the second to extend its lead to 3-1. The Battalion were able to maintain the lead thanks to the Dashers not being able to stay out of the penalty box which allowed Berkshire to score twice on the power play.
The Battalion maintained the two goal margin throughout most of the final period before the Dashers turned up the heat. They scored two goals with their goalie pulled to tie the game. The first came when Justin Levac buried a slapshot into the back of the net. The with 30 seconds left, Brausen skated along the boards, circled the Berkshire net and tucked a wraparound shot in on the back side.
In overtime, the Dashers killed off a penalty and moments later won the game. Brian Soskin and A.J. Tesoriero broke in on a two-on-one rush which ended with Soskin feeding Tesoriero for a one-timer that beat Messina.
