HERSHEY, PA: On Saturday, September 25, 2021, the old barn known as Hersheypark Arena welcomed a new team to its facility for a USPHL Premiere division game between the hometown Hershey Cubs, and the visiting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. The junior hockey club is owned by former NHL coach Bruce Boudreau and his wife Crystal.
Both Boudreau’s were on hand to welcome fans to the arena for the big night. Many of the fans were decked out in newly acquired Cubs gear, as well as Hershey Bears AHL gear. AHL Hall of Famer Willie Marshall, who owns league all time records in goals, points, assists, hat tricks and games played dropped the ceremonial puck alongside Bruce Boudreau.
Colin Anna scored the first goal of the game in the first period for the Knights. In the second period Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s Justin Ryan would give his team a two-goal lead. Hershey’s Jack Rose would get the Cubs on the board at 11:11, but just one minute and seven seconds later, the Knight’s Liam Wicks would extend the lead back to two. The second period ended with the Knights up 3-1. Hunter Parker would score the only goal in the third period, giving the Knights their fourth goal.
Tade Carman was in net for the Knights and made 19 saves on 20 shots, while Hogan Nelson made 30 saves on 34 shots.
Hershey’s next home game will be on October 2, 2021.
