PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Comeback falls short as Ice Flyers lose to Columbus 3-2

PENSACOLA, Fla. – On January 2, the Pensacola Ice Flyers (14-8-1) couldn’t complete the weekend sweep of the Columbus Cottonmouths (10-10-4) as they fell 3-2.

For the second night in a row, the Cottonmouths got on the board first with a goal by Louis Belisle just 3:46 into the game. The game remained 1-0 until Phil Tesoriero score his first goal of the season with 2:53 left in the second. Dean Moore had the only assist on the tying goal. The game wasn’t tied long as Chris Rial scored with 1:02 left in the second to give a 2-1 lead going into the second intermission.
Columbus extended their streak to 3-1 thanks to a power play goal by Cody Freeman1:54 into the third. The Ice Flyers pressured Columbus late in the period and despite being a man down, Junior Harris used an unassisted, shorthanded goal to begin the comeback attempt with 1:08 left in the third. Unfortunately, the score stood at 3-2 after 60 minutes.
John McLean stopped 33 of Columbus’ 36 shots on net as his record fell to 6-2-0 on the season.
