COLUMBUS, GA – Brandon Jaeger recorded a shutout against the Fayetteville FireAntz as the Columbus Cottonmouths picked up a 2-0 win.

Columbus was led by Craig Simchuk, who racked up one goal. Simchuk scored on the power play 17:51 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. The Cottonmouths had gained a power play chance when Andrew Darrigo was whistled for hooking. Kyle Shapiro provided the assist.

Columbus stifled Fayetteville’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 31 shots on goal, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 21.1 shots they average per game this year.

Shawn Bates also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Andy Bathgate and Al Graves, who each chipped in one.

The FireAntz’s offense operated below their season average of 2.9 goals per game. The defense for the FireAntz played an important role offensively, racking up 20 shots on goal. Fayetteville put 48 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.3 it averages per game.

The FireAntz were led by Chris Porter, who took six shots.

Columbus’ Jaeger stopped all 48 shots that he faced. The Cottonmouths incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Parker Van Buskirk made 29 saves for Fayetteville on 31 shots. The FireAntz incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
