JACKSONVILLE, FLA – Everett Clark scored the lone goal in the shootout to give the Icemen the 3-2 win over the top-ranked South Division Norfolk Admirals on Monday, November 12th. By virtue of gaining a point for going beyond regulation, the Admirals held on to the top spot by a single point.
With first place in the division on the line, the contest was tight throughout. Both goalies, Jacksonville’s Mikhail Berdin and Norfolk’s Brad Barone, were not in a giving mood as goals were tough to come by.
Norfolk opened the scoring 14:34 into the first period when Ben Duffy beat Berdin off of assists from Zane Schartz and Jacob Graves. The Icemen answered back a little over two minutes later when Cam Maclise set up Wacey Rabbit for the game-tying goal. Jacob Cederholm picked up the second assist on the play.
There was just one goal in the second and it went to the Icemen. During a power play, Clark and Kris Newbury were able to work the puck to where Dajon Mingo had a wide open shot and he scored at 12:37.
Jacksonville held the lead until the 12:47 mark of the final period when TJ Melancon evened the scoreboard at 2-2. Assists on the score went to Darik Angeli and Jalen Smereck.
The game remained tied through the rest of regulation and the five minute overtime period. In the shootout, Clark scored in round three, beating Barone over the right pad. Norfolk’s Taylor Cammarata had a chance to send the shootout to sudden death but Berdin made the save to close out the win for the home team.
