PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Clan hold off Sheffield for win

SHEFFIELD – A first period blitz from the Glasgow Clan proved to be too much for the Steelers to overturn as the four game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Zack Fitzgeralds’ purple army.

Glasgow took the lead courtesy of Chad Rau at 9.15 and it was soon 2-0 when an errand pass was picked up by the Clan and the puck buried past Duba at 11.24 (Bjerrum)

Sheffield struggled to get a grip on the game and at 13.56 Rasmus Bjerrum scored his second of the game that also saw Aaron Fox replace Tomas Duba with backup goalie Pavel Kantor.

It was the Clan who would round off the scoring in period one with a powerplay goal 12 seconds before the buzzer.

As Micahel Davies sat in the box for slashing, Matt Stanisz took advantage of the extra-man and flicked the puck past Kantor.

Head coach, Aaron Fox got his point across in the intermisson as there was a jump in Steelers step.

Whilst chances remained minimal for the home side, pressure was being heaped on the Clan but Killeen stood tall.

A tape-to-tape stretch pass from O’Connor found Anthony DeLuca who went forehand-backhand to slot the puck post the Clan netminder.

It was to be just the one goal in the middle period, timed at 31:51.

Anthony DeLuca netted his second of the night when he took control of a rebound to force the puck over the line. (47:54)

With pressure builiding throughout the game on the Clan goal, the Steelers pushed and pushed for a third goal and the arena could sense it coming.

A blast from the blueline bounced off a body, hit the leg of Robert Dowd and past Killeen all with Kantor pulled for the extra-attacker. (58:41)

It was too little, too late as there was no time to muster any other quality opportunities before the final buzzer.  When Aaron Brocklehurst was called for roughing with less than 30 seconds on the clock, the game was done.
