Glasgow’s Braehead Clan ran Sheffield Steelers close for much of the game at the Fly DSA Arena, but ended on the losing side in a 3-0 defeat.
A power cut caused a delay to face off in the final match before Christmas as Clan looked to break the six-game losing run.
Steelers themselves had taken a dip in form, losing their last two in the league, but recovering to thrash Dundee Stars in their Challenge Cup quarter final earlier in the week.
Clan goalie Ryan Nie was forced to make a double save early on as he kept his end clear, while Christoffer Bjorklund fired one over.
A chance from Davey Phillips tested Nie later on in the first, but the visiting netminder gloved it well to keep the scores blank after the first 20 minutes.
The home side got the perfect start to the second period as they took the lead as Matt Marquardt’s low one timer beat Nie and found its way into the net.
Brendan Brooks tried to get Braehead back on level terms with a chance aiming for the corner, but Steelers goalie Ervins Mustukovs gloved it well.
Another save from Nie from Tim Wallace kept Steelers’ lead slender early in the third after he was set up by Mathieu Roy.
Sheffield finally added their second as Colton Fretter tried one from the right and blasted his effort past Nie with 12 minutes to play.
Clan tried to claw their way back, but Roy’s empty net finish kept the points in Yorkshire late on to end the weekend on a low note.
