PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Carr and Booras lead Oilers to 4-0 win over Beast

PHN_BSOG-200x133BRAMPTON, Ontario – Playing just miles from his hometown, Tulsa goalie Kevin Carr turned in an inspired effort on Monday afternoon with 28 saves in the Oilers’ 4-0 victory over the Brampton Beast.  Carr recorded his second shutout of the season and Jon Booras notched a pair of goals to push the Oilers to their second straight road triumph.
The tone was set only 37 seconds into the game as a pair of rookie forwards, Brady Ramsay of the Oilers and Tyson Fawcett of the Beast, traded punches in a bout at center ice.  With just over a minute off the first period clock, Ontario native Kyle Bochek scooped up a loose puck in the neutral zone and whipped a wrist shot from the top of the face off circle that beat Grant Rollheiser to the glove side.  In front of dozens of family members and friends, Bochek tallied his third goal of the season and gave the Oilers an early 1-0 lead.  Moments after Bochek’s strike, Beast forward Justin Donati broke free and moved in all alone on Tulsa netminder Kevin Carr.  A Unionville, Ontario product, Carr denied Donati’s breakaway attempt with his right pad and went on to make 12 more saves over the remainder of the opening frame.
Tulsa winger Matt Larke displayed his two-way talents in the second period to set up the Oilers’ second goal of the afternoon.  After breaking up a shot attempt on the back-check, Larke gathered the puck on the right wing and started a two-on-rush with Booras into the Beast zone.  Booras teed up a slap shot over the glove of Rollheiser at 13:49 to give the Oilers a two-goal cushion.
Early in the third, the Tulsa lead was extended thanks to a battle along the boards that was won by T.J. Caig and Tommy Mele.  The Oilers wingers kept a loose puck from the Beast defensemen and Mele zipped a pass across the Brampton zone that connected with the tape of Jeff Jubinville.  The Oilers’ rookie center snapped a shot past Rollheiser for his 19th goal of the season and a 3-0 advantage.  Booras finished off the Oilers’ triumph with a brilliant individual effort at 15:50 of the final frame.  After receiving a pass from Caig, Booras shielded the puck away from Beast defenseman Dalton Thrower and muscled a shot underneath the cross bar for his second strike of the contest.
Booras and his linemates, Caig and Mele, finished the game with a pair of points and 13 of the 16 Tulsa skaters finished +1 or better.  Caig, a +3 on the night, extended his point streak to six games.  The Oilers penalty kill had allowed a power play goal in seven straight games but on Monday afternoon, the Tulsa unit successfully eliminated all six Beast power plays.
