SAN JOSE, Calif. – In a 5-3 win over the Sharks, the Calgary Flames clinched the Western Conference first place title. The Flames outshot the Sharks 28-15 in the game.
Timo Meier scored the first goal for the night, mid-way through the first period. But his goal was answered by a trio of goals from Sean Monahan, Mark Jankowski and Dalton Prout.
Mikael Backlund scored the solo goal of the second period to stretch Calgary’s lead to 4-1.
The Sharks tried to comeback in the third period, beginning with a goal from Logan Couture, only to be followed up by Michael Frolik a few mintutes later. Kevin Labanc scored the game’s final goal with 16:34 remaining. The Flames held fast, for the final 5-3 game win.
