ODENTON, Maryland: The Maryland Black Bears of the NAHL took on the Maine Nordiques at Piney Orchard Arena, coming away with an exciting 5-3 victory. Maryland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, with a goal from Sean Kilcullen and a penalty shot goal by Brad McNeil. Maine would come back with two goals of their own in the first. Nicholas Bernardo scored a power play goal and Dom Marcinkevics scored an even strength goal for the tie in the first.
About midway through the second, it was Marcinkevics putting the Nordiques up for their first lead of the game. Laker Aldridge would even it up for the Black Bears minutes later to complete the scoring in the second period.
Bobby Staring of Maryland would score what would be the game winning goal just 2:51 into the period. Elliott Lareau would score a short-handed empty netter with just thirty-six seconds remaining to put the game away.
Avery Sturtz would make 34 saves on 39 shots for Maine, while Michael Morelli would get the victory with 29 saves on 32 shots.
