PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Americans rally falls short

phn-bsogALLEN, Texas – The Allen Americans put up a great fight in the third period but fell a little short as the Alaska Aces took game one of the two-game set 4-3 on Saturday night at Allen Event Center.

The Americans didn’t score their first goal until the third period when Matt Willows, fired home his third of the season from Rick Pinkston and Spencer Asuchak at the 3:38 mark. Then Greger Hanson cut the lead to 3-2 with his team leading fifth goal of the year, from Chris Crane and Joel Chouinard. The scored remained that way until late in the third when Alaska scored an empty net goal to grab a two-goal lead again. Eric Roy would score with the extra attacker on the ice to make it 4-3 late, but the rally ended as the Americans were unable to get the tying goal, falling to the Aces for the fourth time in five meetings between the two teams.

“Right now we can’t seem to get things to go our way,” said Americans forward Chad Costello. “Our confidence might be a little down. We need to work ourselves out of this funk and start playing the hockey we know we’re capable of.”

The Americans outshot the Aces 16 to 7 in the final period as both teams totaled 34 shots for the game. Stephan Perfetto was the number one star of the game scoring two goals for Alaska. Jamie Murray earned the second star for Allen making 31 saves, while Tim Coffman was the number three star for Alaska with a two- point night.
