ALLEN, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, defeated the Idaho Steelheads on Friday night by a score of 2-1 at Allen Event Center in front of a crowd of 2,985 fans.
Peter MacArthur and Vincent Arseneau each scored their second goal of the season in the only two goals Allen would need to win their sixth game of the year. MacArthur’s came early in the second period at the 5:58 mark after a feed from Bryan Moore across to the right circle, MacAthur’s shot trickled across the line and into the net. Bryan Moore and Stephon Williams drawing the assist. Just a little over four minutes later Vincent Arseneau beat Phillipe Desrosiers to put Allen up 2-0. Miles Liberati had the only assist.
“We got off to a fast start and then had to hold on for the win,” said Americans forward Vincent Arseneau. “We let them back in it in the third period. Stephon (Williams) bailed us out with some big saves.”
Williams stopped 28 of 29 Idaho shots to pick up his second straight victory. Both teams had five power play opportunities and both teams went 0 for 5 with the man-advantage. Allen killed off a big five-on-three in the third period after Mike Gunn picked up a double-minor for cross checking and high-sticking.
Allen outshot the Idaho Steelheads 33 to 29 for the game, but were outshot 12 to 7 in the final period. Vincent Arseneau led the Americans in shots-on-goal with six, earning the number one star of the game. Williams 28 saves earned him the second star.
