ALLEN, Texas – The Allen Americans dropped their second in a row, and third straight home game as the Rapid City Rush beat the Americans 6-3 on Saturday night at Allen Event Center.
After Derek Mathers gave the Americans a 1-0 lead 42 seconds into the game, Rapid City would respond with three unanswered goals on their way to their fourth straight win. Josh McDonald led the way for Rapid City with a goal and two assists, while Lindsey Sparks finished the game with two goals and a plus four on the night.
“Our top players aren’t scoring right now and we’re not working hard enough to win a game,” said Americans forward Derek Mathers. We gave away another one tonight.”
Jake Marchment scored his fourth goal of the season in the loss, while Aaron Gens added his second. For the second game in a row the Americans starting goalie was pulled as Riley Gill came in for Jamie Murray to start the third period. Gill stopped five of six shots in relief.
The Americans play the Tulsa Oilers on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 PM at the BOK Center. The Americans will play six straight away from Allen Event Center
