PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Americans drop Oilers 4-2 for first win

PHN_BSOG-200x133ALLEN, Texas – The Allen Americans defeated the Tulsa Oilers, by a 4-2 score on Saturday night to even their record at 1-1, and win the first of back to back games against their Oklahoma rival.

The Americans jumped on the board early in the first when Justin Courtnall, scored 24 seconds into the opening frame, his first of the season from Tristan King and Gary Steffes, to make it a 1-0 Allen lead. The Oilers would tie the game late in the first after stealing the puck at center ice as Darian Dziurzynski, buried one on a great pass from Brady Ramsey as the Oilers tied the score at 1-1.

The Americans had the only goal of the second period when Gary Steffes found the back of the net for his first of the season, on the power play from Dyson Stevenson and Garrett Clarke, and the Americans took a 2-1 lead to the locker room.

David Makowski scored what turned out to be the game winner in the third period even strength as he fired a backhander from the right wing boards that deflected in off the pads of Oilers goalie Kevin Carr, as the Americans built a 3-1 lead. Both teams would score again including Tristan King’s, empty net goal late in the final period and the Americans walk away with a 4-2 victory setting up the matchup Sunday afternoon in Tulsa. Puck drop is at 4:05 pm.
