ALLEN, Texas – A familiar foe was once again at the Allen Event Center on Saturday evening, as the Americans took down the Missouri Mavericks, 4-1 in front of a huge crowd of 5,128.
Americans captain Chad Costello is far and away the ECHL leader in points with and astounding 94 points in 66 games played. Costello was true to form against the Mavericks, racking up 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists). Allen needed the performance they received from Costello as the team was riding a four game losing streak. However, the captain was far from alone in his clutch performance. The gelling of Costello with Vincent Arseneau and Casey Pierro-Zabotel was very apparent against Missouri, as the trio accumulated 8 total points and a goal for each one.
“We jumped on them early and never looked back,” said Americans forward Chad Costello. “Jake Hildebrand was solid in net and our defense played great in front of him. We need that same effort from the boys tomorrow.”
Gary Steffes also joined the fun in the third period, as he netted his 20th on the season.
Sebastien Sylvestre tallied the lone goal for the Mavericks, a Power Play goal, and his 15th of the year.
The habitually overpowering Mavericks boast a record of 49-10-3-2. However, they had their troubles against a new face in net for the Americans. As the impressive James Murray finished his stay with Allen, another body takes his place in the form of Jake Hildebrand. The Michigan State Spartan earned the third star of the game, stopping 32 of 33 Missouri shots.
The Americans have an Easter matinee at Allen Event Center on Sunday, the 27th, at 4:05 pm against the Missouri Mavericks.
