PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Americans big comeback leads to 6-5 OT win

phn-bsogALLEN, Texas  – The Allen Americans defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 6-5 in overtime on Saturday night to take a 3-1 series lead with Game 5 set for Sunday afternoon in Allen.

Allen pulled off an amazing comeback in the third period, scoring three times to tie the score at 5-5. Tristan King opened the scoring, 1:16 into the final frame, with a blast from between the circles for his fourth of the playoffs from Gary Steffes and Chad Costello to cut the lead to 5-3. Three minutes and thirty seconds later, Greger Hanson put a backhander past Pat Nagle that just trickled over the line for his 10th of the playoffs and Allen’s second power play goal of the third to cut the lead to 5-4.

DSC_2814The game would remain that way until the 10:33 mark, when David Makowski ripped one home from the outside to complete the comeback and bring the game back to even. Neither team would score in the final nine and a half minutes sending the game to sudden death overtime.

The Americans would cash in just under four minutes into the overtime period, as Danny Federico fed the puck up on the right wing to Dyson Stevenson who passed the puck across to J.P. Lafontaine, who backhanded one home for the game winner in overtime to give Allen a 3-1 series lead an complete the unbelievable comeback

DSC_2817“We never thought the game was over,” said Americans Co-Captain Chad Costello following the win. “We felt like if we cashed in early in the third we would have plenty of time to get it even. When Greger (Hanson) scored to cut the lead to one goal, we knew something special could happen.”
