ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Danny Moynihan scored to tie the game in the third period, and Nolan Descoteaux followed with the game-winner as the Alaska Aces outlasted the Idaho Steelheads 4-3 on Wednesday, January 25th at the Sullivan Arena.
The win was Alaska’s second straight over the Steelheads, going back to a January 7th game in Boise.
Idaho scored the first two goals of the game. Kyle Jean at 1:17 and Anthony Luciani on the power play at 9:41 gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.
The Aces cut the lead in half at 17:58 on a goal by Mackenze Stewart. Stewart accepted a pass from Tim Coffman in the neutral zone and took the puck to the deep slot. His hard wrist shot went off the tip of goaltender Branden Komm’s glove and trickled into the net for his second goal of the season. Nolan Descoteaux also assisted.
The Aces had a chance at tying the game at 19:40, but Peter Sivak’s penalty shot was denied by Komm.
Just one goal in the second period. With the Aces on a 5 on 3 power play, Tim Coffman found Peter Sivak low on the right goal line with a nifty saucer pass. Sivak fanned on an attempted one-timer but popped in the second try for his league-leading 31st goal of the season. Descoteaux added another assist on the play, the period ended 2-2.
In the third period, Andre Bouvet-Morrissette gave Idaho a 3-2 lead at 2:50. Four minutes later the Aces made their move.
Moynihan came up the ice with Stephen Perfetto, taking a centering pass and blasting a one-timer past Komm at 6:39. The goal was Moynihan’s 12th of the season.
The game-winning goal was supplied by Descoteaux at 9:54. Sivak’s turn-around shot from the slot was kicked away by Komm, and Descoteaux got the puck and circled the net, shooting the disc off Komm and into the net for his fifth goal of the season.
The Aces outshot the Steelheads 39-32 for the game.
Alaska was 1-6 on the power play, Idaho 0-2.
