NASHVILLE – The 2015 NHL All-Star festivities kicked off on the ice Saturday evening with the ritual skills competition.
The event highlights speed, agility, stickhandling, shooting, scoring and goaltending by the league’s best players.
This was no exception but the efforts on the ice were exceptional
The category winners on the night were:
Individual Event Winners
Bridgestone NHL Fastest Skater: Dylan Larkin (DET) – 12.894 seconds*
Honda NHL Breakaway Challenge: P.K. Subban (MTL) – 31.0%
DraftKings NHL Accuracy Shooting: John Tavares (NYI) – 12.294 seconds
AMP Energy NHL Hardest Shot: Shea Weber (NSH) – 108.1 mph
* Larkin also broke Mike Gartner’s all-time record for one lap at 13.172 seconds
In the shootout portion of the skills competition, the Eastern Conference swamped the west with a 17-4 edge including some standout efforts from Cory Schneider of the New Jersey Devils and Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals.
Roberto Luongo of the Florida Panthers was perfect in the first round of the shootout, stopping all shooters he faced.
Devan Dubnyk, Jonathan Quick and John Gibson were victimized by the east’s sharp shooters.
