NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – Mark Guggenberger tied a Brahmas record on Wednesday night, recording his second consecutive shutout in a 2-0 win over the Dayton Gems.
The rookie goaltender picked up the first shutout of his professional career in Tuesday night’s 4-0 win over the Allen Americans and followed it up by stopping all 27 shots fired on net by the Gems on Wednesday. Guggenberger is the first Brahmas netminder to record consecutive shutouts since Steve Plouffe accomplished the feat on December 5th and 8th, 1998. Rob Laurie was the only other Brahmas goalie to record back-to-back shutouts, blanking the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and Monroe Moccasins on December 16th and 18th, 1997. The Brahmas’ captains provided the scoring versus the Gems. Alternate captain Chad Woollard scored the first goal of the game – and the eventual game-winner – at the 18:07 mark of the second period off a set-up from captain Adam Hogg. For Woollard, it was his 19th goal of the season, putting him just two scores shy of tying Chris Richards for 10th on the CHL all-time goals list. With just four seconds remaining in regulation, Hogg added a shorthanded empty-netter to extend the Brahmas’ lead and stick a fork in Dayton.
