INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Missouri Mavericks kept rolling with their third consecutive win Friday night at Independence Events Center, defeating the Tulsa Oilers by a score of 4-3.
Brandon Coccimiglio dominated the score sheet with two goals and an assist on the night. Ryan Jardine and John-Scott Dickson each added a goal in the effort.
The Mavericks and Oilers couldn’t convert a combined three power play attempts in the period. The Mavericks out shot the Oilers 15-8 in the opening frame.
Ryan Jardine put the Mavericks up midway through the second period on a loose puck in the slot. David Simoes and Cole Ruwe assisted on the tally. John-Scott Dickson doubled the Mavericks lead seven minutes later on a centering feed from Brandon Coccimiglio. Carlyle Lewis registered an assist on the goal for his first point of the season.
Tulsa got on the board late in the period on a goal from Jason Weeks. Assisting on the goal was Gerome Giudice.
The Oilers tied the game four and a half minutes into the third period on a goal from Troy Ofukany. Assisting on the goal was Mike Ullrich.
Brandon Coccimiglio added two quick goals to double the Mavs’ lead midway through the third period, with one coming on the power play. Patrick Schafer, Brandon Smith, Sebastien Thinel and Dave Pszenyczny all added assists on the goals. Coccimiglio’s power play goal was the first for the Mavericks in six games.
Tulsa’s Gary Steffes kept Tulsa close with a goal with eight minutes remaining in regulation.
Ruwe was called for tripping with 28 seconds left, and with Tulsa’s goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, the Oilers held a six-on-four advantage for the remainder of regulation. The Mavericks held off the Oilers for the final half minute, skating to their third consecutive victory.
The Mavericks are now 8-1-3 in games decided by one goal this season.
