ALLEN, Texas – The Laredo Bucks faced the Allen Americans for the third straight game on Friday night and came away with a 3-2 win in overtime.
The first period proved to be a physical match for both teams. The Americans scored first when Colton Yellow Horn put a backhand past Torrie Jung at the 3:11 mark, assisted by Brett Clouthier and Bruce Graham. The Bucks had two power play opportunities in the period, but were unable to convert. The Americans added to their lead with just 18 seconds remaining in the period when Jarret Lukin scored a power play goal with the assists from Dominic D’Amour and Jason Deitsch. The period came to a close with the Bucks out shot 15-10 and trailing 2-0. Laredo battled back out shooting the Americans in the second 16-11. The Bucks finally lit the lamp at the 7:05 mark of the second period with David Inman scoring a power play goal on a quick wrister that beat Allen goalie Marco Cousineau. Inman was assisted by Adam Rivet and Matt Pierce.
Both teams played a tight third period. Mark Nebus scored the tying goal at 6:34, sneaking the puck by the Allen goalie. Rusty Masters assisted on the goal. Laredo once again out shot the Americans, this time 10-6.
It would take an extra period for the game to be decided. Rusty Masters scored the game-winning goal only 1:12 seconds into overtime. Neil Trimm and Matt Hanson assisted on the tally which stunned the Americans and their fans.
