TOLEDO, Ohio – Derek Brochu picked up a goal in tonight’s game, but it was not enough as the Toledo Walleye fell to Elmira Jackals 7-1 in front of 7,006 fans at the Huntington Center on Saturday night. The Walleye are 28-34-2-4 on the season and are 14-17-0-3 at home.
Elmira would open the scoring at 12:37 of the first period after Corey Cowick put a puck behind Walleye goaltender Alec Richards . Corey Tamblyn scored just :13 later, extending Elmira’s lead to 2-0.
Derek Brochu then got the Walleye on the board at the 13:14 mark of the period, taking a pass from David Gilbert and burying the puck behind Elmira goaltender Timo Pielmeier. Brochu’s sixth goal of the year cut the Jackals’ lead in half.
Elmira’s Rob Bellamy tacked on another goal 14:04 in to the first, giving them a 3-1 lead.
Toledo sent 11 shots on net during the opening period.
Mike Radja took a shot from the top of the circles that got past Richards at 6:48 of the second period, extending Elmira’s lead to 4-1. Elmira then picked up two back-to-back goals; the first coming from Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel at 17:03 of the period. Kyle Reeds then put the Jackals up 6-1 at the 17:48 mark of the middle period.
Goaltender Dustin Carlson replaced Richards at the start of the third period.
Elmira added another goal 11:52 in to the third period, with Cowick netting his second of the game, giving the Jackals a 7-1 win.
