ALLEN, Texas – The Allen Americans picked up their third straight victory on Saturday evening with a 5-1 throttling of the Tulsa Oilers in front of 4,438 at the Allen Event Center.
The win improved the Americans’ record to 26-10-7 on the season.
The Americans would took a 1-0 lead 11:45 into the opening frame when Brian McMillin buried the rebound from Colton Yellow Horn’s backhander past Tulsa netminder Steve Christie.
McMillin found the back of the net again just 2:23 later when his one-timer beat Christie to extend the Americans’ lead to 2-0. Colton Yellow Horn and Jarret Lukin were credited with assists on the play.
Rejean Beauchemin finished the first period with 7 saves on 7 shots while Christie stopped 10 of 12.
The second period had no scoring despite 14 total shots on goal and a combined 6 power play opportunities. Through forty minutes of play in Allen, the Americans led the Oilers in shots 21-12.
The Americans came out firing to start the third period and quickly doubled their lead to 4-0 behind goals from Mark Nebus and Jeff Martens at 0:45 and 2:12, respectively.
Allen was not done just yet, as Jarret Lukin sent Brian McMillin’s feed from behind the goal line past Christie to give the Americans a 5-0 lead at the 4:26 mark.
Tulsa’s Jason Weeks ended Rejean Beauchemin’s bid for a shutout with 2:32 remaining in regulation, but the Oilers were unable to inch any closer.
Beauchemin finished the night with 24 saves on 25 shots to improve to 12-4-4 on the season.
