ALLEN, Texas – The Allen Americans took Game One of their first round series with the Texas Brahmas 5-0 on Friday night to take a 1-0 series lead.
The Americans opened the scoring in the first period as Americans forward Jarret Lukin set-up Jim McKenzie with a cross-ice pass. McKenzie fired a one-timer past Brahmas goalie Mark Guggenburger to put Allen up 1-0.
That would be the only goal of the opening period with the Americans outshooting the Brahmas 10-6.
Allen cashed in two more times in the second frame. Brian McMillin deflected one past Mark Guggenburger on a Mike Berube shot from the right side to make the score 2-0 Allen.
Fourteen minutes later, the Americans added to their lead when Bruce Graham picked up the first of two on the night. Jarret Lukin flying in on the left wing dropped one back to Bruce Graham who buried a one-timer with four seconds left on the power-play to make the score 3-0 Americans.
Texas outshot Allen 10-7 in the second, but was unable to solve Reggie Beauchemin.
Bruce Graham and Keith Johnson scored for the Americans in the third, Graham’s second of the game, as Allen built a 5-0 lead.
Allen was 1-1 on the power-play on the night, while Texas went 0-5. Rejean Beauchemin stopped all 22 Texas shots, while Mark Guggenburger stopped 18 of 23 Allen shots.
“It was a big win tonight,” Americans Captain Jason Deitsch said. “Now we have to get ready for game two on Sunday. Beauchemin played great and made some big saves for us. It was a good way to start the playoffs”
