PHN Photo Essay – Allen Americans Vs. Texas Brahmas

ALLEN, Texas – The Allen Americans (14-4-4) defeated the Texas Brahmas (11-8-4) 3-2 in overtime on Friday night thanks to a power play strike by Scott Langdon, his first goal of the season.

The Americans found themselves down 2-0 after the opening 20 minutes of play. Brendon Hodge opened the scoring for Texas with a shot from the right wing boards that found its way past Marco Cousineau for a 1-0 Brahmas lead. The Brahmas added to their lead a little over 12 minutes later when Adam Hogg followed up Dan Nicholls’ shot, poking it in on the back-hand to make it 2-0. The Brahmas out shot the Americans 13-6 in the opening frame.

Jarret Lukin cut the Texas lead in half, netting his 8th goal of the year on a great pass from Trevor Hendrikx. Lukin turned and fired a quick wrister from the left face-off circle, beating Steve Silverthorn to make it a 2-1 contest. Allen had a 7-2 shot advantage in the second period.

The Americans came out flying in the third, putting continued pressure on the Brahmas and netminder Steve Silverthorn. Allen finally tied it up at the 14:09 mark when Jason Deitsch followed up his own rebound, sliding the puck into the net to even it at 2-2. The score would remain tied over the final five and a half minutes, sending the game into overtime. Allen had an 11-9 shot advantage in the third period and a 26-24 advantage in regulation.

In the extra session, Scott Langdon received a pass from Trevor Hendrix and let one fly from the left point, beating Silverthorn at the 59 second mark. It was Langdon’s first goal of the season and it came during his 200th professional start. The win marked the Americans’ second in a row.

“I think once we get settled into our game and going, things are fine but we seem to forget about 15 minutes,” Americans Head Coach and GM Dwight Mullins said .
