PHILADELPHIA – Prohockeynews can at least for one night pat themselves on the back. PHN staff turned in a solid performance getting five picks correct in the NHL Entry Draft. It might not sound like much but in the mock draft world you’d be surprised how hard that can pick, especially when you consider the fact that PHN starts their mock draft a month before the NHL Draft actually begins.
PHN had the following picks correct: Rasmus Dahlin went first overall to the Buffalo Sabres, Andrei Svechnikov went second overall to the Carolina Hurricanes, Brady Thachuk fourth overall to the Ottawa Senators, Adam Boqvist seventh overall to the Chicago Blackhawks, and Ty Smith went 17th overall to the New Jersey Devils.
PHN also did well in terms picking players that were predicted to go in the first round. Only six players taken in the first round that PHN did not predict would go in the first round. Research goes a long way to predicting a mock draft and as the years have gone by so have the scouting of prospects.
Another aspect of a mock draft is predicting what kind of player would be taken by certain teams, such as Buffalo selecting a defenseman. Overall 11 picks were correctly made in terms of the position that was taken by the team such as Detroit selecting a center with the 30th overall pick.
Again congratulations to PHN on what works out to be one of, if not the best mock draft PHN has ever done.
