PHILADELPHIA, Pa – The Philadelphia Flyers are currently ranked 4th in the NHL in scoring, but most of their scoring come from the center and right wing positions. The highest scoring left winger on the current roster is Michael Raffl, who has 7 goals and 2 assists in 29 games. The next best scoring left winger is Roman Lyubimov with 3 goals and 1 assists in 28 games. That is not going to cut it for a team that is in danger of
falling out of a playoff spot.
While the Flyers have focused on the blueline in recent years in the NHL Entry Draft, they are still looking for a blue chip prospect on offense to fill in that scoring need. The problem is they have had more than several chances to address their needs at winger but the always stubborn Flyers keep racking up the centers in their down-the-middle-of-the-ice mentality.
The good news is the Flyers can either take some of their center prospects and move them to wing, or pray one of their current prospects turn out to be a hidden gem.
Today we move on to part 3 of our look at the Flyers top prospects with the wingers, both right and left.
Travis Konecny – Konecny had a solid rookie season for the Flyers scoring 11 goals and 17 assists. Not bad for a kid drafted 24th overall in 2015. He was a 20 plus goal scorer in juniors before going pro right away. Konecny has a bright future ahead of him and should be a vital part of the Flyers future should he continue to develop well each season.
Wade Allison – Allison was the third second round pick of the Flyers in 2016 and had a solid season season despite some off ice issues. He had 25 goals for Tri-City in the USHL and is currently playing college hockey for the Western Michigan Broncos where he has 12 goals in 36 games.
Allison has a solid built will get a long look by the Flyers in 2-3 years. Expect Allison to be in college for at least one more season, but unless he has a standout season will most likely stay at WM through his senior season.
David Kase – The Czech Republic native is as former fifth round pick in 2015, but despite his size, he is a sure dark horse worthy of keeping your eye on even if his stats don’t catch your attention.
Olle Lycvksell – The Swedish native is a 6th round pick in 2017. A true project but he could become a dark horse 3-4 years from now. Flyers brass liked what they saw from him in the recent developmental camp.
