PHILADELPHIA, Pa – If the Philadelphia Flyers have one major weakness, not only on their current roster but throughout their organization, it is at left wing. The Flyers blind spot for years has again reared its ugly head and the cost of losing Gutter Gauthier has set the Flyers back at the position. Thankfully the Flyers had a career from Joel Farabee and his 22 goals and 28 assists. For all of the rumors swirling around him, the Flyers have a Gutter Gauthier sized hole to fill. No left wingers were drafted yet again The Flyers only had one last year but that wasn’t until the fourth round.
Usually, PHN will list the top five prospects at every position but the cupboard is very bare. That said, here are the only three left wing prospects still in the Flyers farm system.
Elliot Desnoyers – Desnoyers was once seen as a solid lock to make the parent club after scoring 42 goals in Halifax back in 2021-22. He had a solid season for Lehigh Valley scoring 23 goals the next season but only had 6 last year. He still is very much in the Flyers plans but to what degree. Again, on a team with very few prospects at left wing and the rumor flying around Farabee, a roster spot could be in the making come training camp.
Alex Ciernik – A fourth round pick in 2023, Ciernik is by no means a goal scorer. His play is a speed game and has some offensive upside. His play in Sweden has turned some heads and could get a crack at the lineup in 2-3 years.
Alex Bump – Last season Bump had a solid first season in college at Western Michigan with 27 points in 38 games. He isn’t flashy like Ciernik he could very easily find himself on the Flyers roster once his college career is over.
Honorable Mention: None. Unless the Flyers can convince someone to move over to the left side of the rink, what you see is what you get.
