Phantoms edge Lumberjacks, 4-3

MUSKEGON, MI  – Matej Paulovic scored two goals, and Joey Daccord made 43 saves, but the Muskegon Lumberjacks fell to the Youngstown Phantoms in the fourth round of a shootout, 4-3. Muskegon finishes the season series with the Phantoms with a record of (3-1-2).  Youngstown Phantoms logo

The Lumberjacks opened the scoring 16:04 into the first period. After Joey Daccord made a fantastic save on Cameron Morrison, Collin Adams played the puck to Rem Pitlick, who found Matej Paulovic in the slot, and he buried home his 17th goal of the season. The Phantoms would counter three minutes later after Morrison found Kris Myllari in the slot, and he tied the game 1-1, at 19:03 in the first period.

Mitch Eliot was the only skater to find the back of the net in the second period. 5:56 into the middle frame, Eliot netted his 5th goal of the season with a wrist shot from the red line.

Early in the third period, Paulovic netted his second goal of the game, after Adams passed the puck to the Dallas Stars prospect in the slot, and he wristed home his 18th goal of the season. The Phantoms would counter with two unanswered goals to force overtime. Myllari netted his second goal of the game, and James Winkler forced overtime at the 15:58 mark, with a wrap around past Daccord. The Phantoms would complete the comeback when James Cotton netted a shootout goal in the fourth round, to knock the Lumberjacks off 4-3. With the overtime loss, the Lumberjacks have been eliminated from playoff contention.
