Petes Score Four Unanswered, Hand 67s Their First Loss

Fresh off of a 6-2 win at the PMC against the Soo the night before, the Petes traveled to Ottawa for a Friday night meeting with the undefeated 67s. The Petes would start a line featuring four players from the Ottawa area with Jax Dubois (Ottawa), Connor Lockhart (Kanata), Jonathan Melee (Rockland), and Sam Mayer (L’Orignal) all on the ice for puck drop.

The game did not start how the Petes envisioned it, with Ottawa forward Jack Beck scoring on a rebound 1:05 into the game to make it 1-0 67s. Just seven minutes later, Ottawa would extend their lead with Cooper Foster scoring on the powerplay to make it 2-0. Ottawa was completely dominating the first and the Petes would not get their first shot on goal until 10 minutes into the game. Luckily, that first shot was a blast by Sam Mayer that Tucker Robertson got a piece of to make the game 2-1. The game would stay that way heading into the first intermission, with Ottawa controlling the shots 18-6.

The second period started exactly how the Petes envisioned it with Nick Lardis jumping on a rebound to tie the game at 2-2 eight seconds in. With that goal, the momentum started to change in Peterborough’s favour. The game would stay tied for only 12 minutes, as Connor Lockhart would pounce on a Jack Van Volsen rebound and go bar down on the powerplay to give the Petes their first lead of the game. After three unanswered goals, the Petes would take a 3-2 lead into the third period.

The final frame continued with Ottawa piling on the shots, but it would be the Petes who would strike first. Chase Stillman would force a turnover into a breakaway and put a backhand past 67s goalie Max Donoso to extend the Petes lead to 4-2. Late in the period the 67s would continue to press. After a timeout and on a 6-4 with a powerplay and the goalie pulled, Luca Pinelli would score with eight seconds left to make it 4-3. It was too little too late as Jax Dubois would hit the empty net with one second left and give Peterborough the 5-3 win, ending the 67’s undefeated streak at nine games.

Connor Lockhart and Sam Mayer led the way for the Petes with 3 points each. Michael Simpson was phenomenal in the Petes net, turning away 37/40 shots for his OHL leading 7th win of the season.

The Petes next home game is Thursday, November 3rd at the PMC when they welcome the Barrie Colts to town. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
