Calvin Petersen signed a three-year, $15 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday. It has an average annual value of $5 million.
The 26-year-old goalie is in the final season of a three-year, $2.575 million contract ($858,333 AAV) he signed July 16, 2019. He could have become an unrestricted free agent.
Petersen was 9-18-5 with a 2.89 goals-against average and .911 save percentage in 35 games (32 starts) last season. It was the first time since 2016-17 (Peter Budaj, 53) that a goalie other than Jonathan Quick led the Kings in games played.
Quick, a 35-year-old and two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Kings (2012, 2014), had an .898 save percentage in 22 games last season.
Signed by Los Angeles as a free agent July 1, 2017, Petersen is 19-25-6 with a 2.79 GAA, .916 save percentage and one shutout in 54 NHL games (50 starts).
