Peters pitches shutout as Cyclones defeat Walleye

CINCINNATI, OH – The Cincinnati Cyclones (8-5-1-0) edged out the Toledo Walleye, 1-0 on Wednesday night, in front of 7,917. Forward Justin Danforth netted the lone goal of the game, while Cyclones goaltender Anthony Peters stopped all 18 shots for his second shutout of the season.

After a scoreless opening period, both teams traded offensive chances throughout the second. The middle frame also saw the physicality ramp up, as Cyclones forward Brandon McNally fought Toledo’s Ryan Obuchowski, and Cincinnati’s Dominic Zombo dropped the gloves with the Walleye’s Kevin Tansey.

Cincinnati managed to draw first blood late in the period when Danforth flew into the offensive zone, and wristed a shot from the slot in past Toledo goaltender Matej Machovsky to put the Cyclones up 1-0 through 40 minutes.

The third saw the two sides exchange more quality scoring chances, and end-to-end action. Toledo mounted a late game push put Peters remained perfect to preserve Cincinnati’s 1-0 win. The Cyclones were outshot, 18-17 on the night, with both teams going scoreless on the power play.

The Cyclones welcome in the Wheeling Nailers on Friday afternoon. Face-off is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. ET.
