HERSHEY, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins were handed their first loss of the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs by falling to the Hershey Bears, 2-0, at Giant Center on Friday night.
With the best-of-seven Atlantic Division Final knotted up at one game apiece, the Penguins head home to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza for Game 3 tomorrow night, Saturday, May 7.
A shorthanded goal at 12:43 of the opening frame by Sean Collins put Hershey on the scoreboard first.
Carter Camper was set up on a cross-ice pass in the offensive zone and one-timed it into the Penguins’ net for a 2-0 Bears lead at 15:06 of the first period.
After fending off a 1:55-long five-on-three man advantage for Hershey late in the second period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton outshot their opponent 17-8, but were unable to get any pucks past Justin Peters as the Bears held on for the 2-0 win.
The Penguins penalty kill finished the game a perfect three-for-three including the lengthy two-man advantage for the Bears.
Casey DeSmith made 23 saves between the pipes for the Penguins. Peters recorded 27 stops for his second shutout of this postseason.
